Xerox Settles Race Discrimination Suit for $12M

April 11, 2008 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - A seven-year old race discrimination suit against Xerox Corporation has come to an end with the company agreeing to pay $12 million to a class of current and former sales reps.

In a press release, Xerox said it “adamantly denies that it engaged in any policy or practice of unlawful discrimination or retaliation, or any other unlawful conduct.” The company said it is in the best interest of its shareholders and employees to settle the lawsuit and bring an end to the costly litigation.

In addition to the payment, the company agreed to establish a task force comprised of a diverse group of Xerox employees to, among other things, assess the territory assignment process to ensure that African-American sales representatives are compensated in a non-discriminatory manner.

The plaintiffs in the suit alleged they were discriminated against in being assigned to unprofitable territories and not receiving promotions despite their performance (See Racial Discrimination Suit Against Xerox Gets Class Action Status ).
