Judge Decides Alamo Bosses Discriminated Against Muslim Employee

May 31, 2006 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - In the first post-9/11 Muslim discrimination case the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed, a federal judge has ruled that Alamo Rent A Car discriminated against a Somali immigrant in Phoneix by demanding she take off her head scarf during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Bilan Nur’s emigrated to Phoenix when she was 18 in 1998, and the EEOC said her supervisors had allowed her to cover her head during Ramadan in 1999 and 2000, according to The Arizona Republic.

EEOC filed suit against Alamo after Nur was fired in December 2001 only two months after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Republic reported.
