Print Help-Wanted Ads Up, Online Ads Down

October 31, 2005 (PLANSPONSOR.com) - The Conference Board announced that its Help-Wanted Advertising Index inched up one point to 39 in September.

The Conference Board noted in its press release that, in the last three months, the number of help-wanted print ads declined in six of the nine US regions. A large increase (56.6%), however, occurred in the East South Central Region. Increases also occurred in the Mountain (4.4%) and West South Central (2.1%) regions.

Ken Goldstein, Labor Economist at The Conference Board, said in the release that the increases in the East and West South Central Regions were prompted by the dislocations caused by hurricanes and flooding.

Meanwhile, the number of new online job ads declined to 2,038,500, a 4.4% decrease from August. The number of online job ads decreased in all nine US regions.

The Conference Board surveys help-wanted print advertising volume in 51 major newspapers across the US each month.
